Comprehensive Crawlspace Waterproofing & Encapsulation Project in Chapel Hill, NC

In this recent project in Chapel Hill, our EcoCrawls team was called to address a crawlspace experiencing significant moisture issues, mold growth, and poor humidity control. The goal was not only to correct the existing problems but to create a long-term, dry, and healthy crawlspace environment.

The Problem

Upon inspection, the crawlspace showed multiple signs of moisture intrusion, including standing water, high humidity levels, and visible mold growth on structural components. These conditions, if left untreated, can lead to structural damage, poor indoor air quality, and continued microbial growth throughout the home.

Our Solution

To fully resolve the issues, we implemented a multi-layered waterproofing and remediation system designed for long-term performance.

Mold Remediation
We began by carefully treating affected areas to address active mold growth. This step is essential before any encapsulation work, ensuring the space is clean and safe before sealing it off.

French Drain System
A custom interior French drain system was installed along the perimeter of the crawlspace to effectively capture and redirect groundwater. This helps prevent future water intrusion and relieves hydrostatic pressure around the foundation.

Sump Pump & Basin Installation
To remove collected water efficiently, we installed a heavy-duty sump pump system with a properly sized basin. This system ensures water is actively pumped out of the crawlspace and away from the home’s foundation.

Dehumidifier Installation
To maintain proper humidity levels long-term, a crawlspace-rated dehumidifier was installed. This helps control moisture in the air and prevents conditions that allow mold and mildew to return.

Full Crawlspace Encapsulation
Finally, the crawlspace was fully encapsulated with a durable vapor barrier system. This seals the ground and foundation walls, separating the home from the earth and locking out moisture, pests, and outside air infiltration.

Finished crawlspace in Chapel Hill featuring full encapsulation with a sealed vapor barrier, interior French drain system, sump pump basin, dehumidifier installation, and completed mold remediation for long-term moisture control.

The Result

The transformation was immediate and significant. The crawlspace is now a clean, dry, and controlled environment. With the combination of drainage, active water removal, humidity control, and encapsulation, the home is now protected from future moisture-related issues.

Why It Matters

Crawlspace moisture problems rarely fix themselves. In fact, they typically worsen over time. A properly designed system like this protects not only the structure of the home but also the health and comfort of everyone living inside it.

At EcoCrawls, we focus on creating long-term solutions—not temporary fixes—so homeowners can have confidence in the space beneath their home.
